At The Beginning Is Always A Good Place To Start....

"Moses, if you go over the fence, you will be grounded for six months,"
I shouted from the balcony.

Moses, the old red slider turtle had climbed up a four foot grated play enclosure and was teetering on the edge.

He heard my familiar voice and was searching the sky......

Mo tilted his head left then right.  Our eyes met.  He paused.  It was a war of wills.

"Moses, not one more inch," I demanded.

Silence.

Finally, the old turtle started his slow backwards dissent.

Reader, perhaps going backwards first would be helpful.  You should know that Moses has escaped his enclosure before.  What would happen?   I would spend hours looking for him. Then I would shout for everyone to help search.  We seldom found the wise old man. Eventually, he would turn up looking for some fresh veggies and fish.  But we spent many hours worrying about him.

A few days later I spoke to my Vet.

"Doc, did you know turtles could climb vertically?" I asked.

"Yes, it's unfortunate most folks don't realize turtles are skillful climbers," he replied.

"They put up a large screen fence along the highway between Vegas and L.A. to protect
turtles from the road and they simply climb right over it," he said sadly.  "Imagine, no one checked to see if turtles could climb."

Well reader, Moses is fine and has been swimming all summer in his plastic play pool.

Today is my first blogging day.
How are we doing so far?

Throughout my life I have attempted to start several diaries and journals.
How about you?
For one year I kept a journal nearly everyday.
Clap, clap, take a bow!
However, last year I threw them all away.
What?
I know, my Mom would have screamed, "NO!"
But it was time to let go of the past.
Breaking family tradition: "Out with the new, in with the old!"

So here we are.
There you are.
A new beginning right in the middle or a little north of half way there.

Over time (and through the years) you will discover there is a real Crooked Stick Cottage!
Seriously?
Absolutely!
I live there along with family and colorful guests.
Some of the occupants are real and some are make believe.
"Aren't they the same?" Mr. Peaches asked me.
I nodded and said,  "For some...."

And every once in awhile our charming days are interrupted
by an evil source down the road and on the curve.
More later......

But every day is an adventure or at least a cartwheel.
Enjoy our laughter and tears.

Our goal is to tell a tale or two.

As Maui Mouth sings,
"At Crooked Stick Cottage we have wet noses,
furry tails, slimy scales and lots of lovely tales!"

Remember dig deep and always with a smile.
